Books set in a School

  • Submitted: 7th September 2016

It’s that time of year when the kids go back to school so what better time than to read a few titles set in a school ……sometimes granted these are not schools you’d wish your own children were at, and it’s not that I want to give you nightmares but …

The Exclusives  : Author/Guide: Rebecca Thornton

Boarding school can either make or break you. It’s not for everyone.. Just as well therefore that the Greenwood Boarding School is fictional as you would not want anyone you know going here. Things can happen between friends and between girls. This is a book which got me thinking about who you knew at school and what you thought they might end up like.

I Am Not a Number Author/Guide: Jenny Kay Dupuis: I Am Not A Number:

A young First Nations girl is taken from her parents and told she has to adapt in a residential school. Not just a case of a young girl being taken into a new school but a cultural clash to deal with as well. I blubbed a bit at this and it’s for children! The author is herself from the Nipissing First Nation and so this is a really interesting read on many levels

A Secret Place  : Author/Guide: Tana French

Never before have I been so scared of a school noticeboard! This novel revolves all around what’s pinned on it and who might have killed someone. Kids not willing to talk and more than a few who talk about uncomfortable truths. A very claustrophobic read too – again in a fictional boarding school. Just as well!

Two schools I’d quite like to go to…

BOOKS set in a schoolThe Versions of Us : Author/Guide: Laura Barnett

Cambridge is a lovely city at the best of times but this story a la Sliding Doors when life at university could take one of two paths is a lovely read and makes you wonder..aah what if? Think this would make a lovely film as well. If this story told me anything it’s to watch out for rusty nails when out riding my bicycle…..
