A young First Nations girl is taken from her parents and told she has to adapt in a residential school. Not just a case of a young girl being taken into a new school but a cultural clash to deal with as well. I blubbed a bit at this and it’s for children! The author is herself from the Nipissing First Nation and so this is a really interesting read on many levels
A Secret Place : Author/Guide: Tana French
Never before have I been so scared of a school noticeboard! This novel revolves all around what’s pinned on it and who might have killed someone. Kids not willing to talk and more than a few who talk about uncomfortable truths. A very claustrophobic read too – again in a fictional boarding school. Just as well!

Think this would make a lovely film as well. If this story told me anything it’s to watch out for rusty nails when out riding my bicycle…..
