Clay Moloney is a cynical reporter with a regional Australian newspaper expecting an easy Sunday at work. But the dream disappears into smoke when a dead body washes up at the Bay of Martyrs.
He is not too keen to get involved but he’s soon looking into the case and realises that the girl’s death is not a case of misadventure, despite what the police tell him.
He soon becomes obsessed with the murder investigation, putting himself and his co-worker Bec, an Irish-born photographer, in danger.

Bay of Islands Coastal Park is a stunning coastal reserve located on the Great Ocean Road between Peterborough and Warrnambool.
The Bay of Martyrs along with the Bay of Islands, Three Mile Beach and Childers Cove is a popular and well known place for people to stop and get a great view of the area. The beaches are quiet and peaceful, the ocean brought and blue and the news in the local papers is much like what Clay would have been doing before this body was found. It’s small town Australia where everyone knows everyone else and where community means everything.
The Twelve Apostles
This well known landmark is “just along the coast” and the family in the car pass by at the start of the novel. If you’re passing by, be sure to stop as it’s quite a place to visit!
