In the summer of 2000, schoolgirl Sarah Payne went missing from a beach where she played with her siblings. The nation waited with her whole family as the search for the little girl touched the hearts of everyone in the country. After Sarah’s body was found, abducted and murdered by convicted paedophile Roy Whiting, her mother, Sara, spoke of how she had survived those terrible times.
The lovely remote fields of Sussex should be a children’s playground and they are for many children. This map is not intended as a booktrail but a small map to show that even in the countryside, where children should play freely and have adventures and freedom, there are still sometimes people with evil in their hearts who ruin families
The campaign for Sarah’s Law – a campaign headed by a national newspaper and Sarah’s mother as they were sure that a child sex offender had been responsible for their daughter’s death. They wanted to ensure that parents knew if there were any child offenders living in the area, near children. Sarah Payne’s mother has always insisted that such a law would have saved her daughter’s life.
