2000s: “The day I lost you was the day I never really knew you”
When Jess’s daughter, Anna, is reported lost in an avalanche, everything changes.
Jess’s first instinct is to protect Rose, Anna’s five-year-old daughter. But then she starts to uncover Anna’s other life – unearthing a secret that alters their whole world irrevocably . . .
This is a story of family and relationships and although in and aroundGuildford, England there are a few family days out and visits to the Lake District further north.
They don’t feature heavily in the novel at all and are mere backdrops to a much more richer tapestry of secrets, family pain, honour, emotional trauma and more. The landscape of loss is perhaps how best the setting of this book can be described.
