A lovely park but in the novel it’s where Marcus finds out a dark secret. But there is a nice coffee shop to spend a moment contemplating this part of the story if you’re reading it on location.
River Medway
The river runs through the so called Medway Towns ( Rochester, Chatham, Gillingham and Strood)

Rochester castle
Landmark 11th century Norman castle with large keep giving views over the River Medway. This is exactly the kind of castle and heritage featured in the novel and Marcus and Melanie play truant from school in the castle grounds
Rochester High Street
Walk up and down here to see the architecture of the period – Tudor, Georgian and everything in between. Get a feel for the heritage here that’s for sure
Finally you have to take a journey over to the Isle of Sheppey as this is where Marcus has his first run in with Detective Steve Burrell. On a good day, the only thing you, the reader, should run into is the icecream van. Not literarally though of course!
