Nujeen Mustafa has cerebral palsy and cannot walk. This did not stop her braving inconceivable odds to travel in her wheelchair from Syria in search of a new life. Sharing her full story for the first time, Nujeen recounts the details of her childhood and disability, as well as the specifics of her harrowing journey across the Mediterranean to Greece and finally to Germany to seek an education and the medical treatment she needs.

A remarkable journey across Europe from Syria to Germany
Trapped in a fifth floor apartment in Aleppo might seem like a hardship for most children and indeed for most adults, but Nujeen is something else. She is a young girl with a spirit and a determination to escape her confines and go to school and then who knows where.
She might be in a wheel chair but the real trap is the country and society she is in. So, without a school to go to, she teaches herself English by watching US television.
Civil war breaks out between Assad’s forces and ISIS militants forcing Nujeen and her family flee to her native Kobane, then Turkey before they joined thousands of displaced persons in a journey to Europe and asylum.
