Life in a Yorkshire village and in a Yorkshire primary school is full of the unexpected. For where else could you come across Exploding piggy banks and Dracula in your everyday?

Part two of the Yorkshire Dales memoir of teacher Andy Seed.

Travel Guide

Anecdotes of life in a Yorkshire village in the Yorkshire Dales. Originally from Cheshire, Andy and his wife have moved here and now have a son called Tom with another on the way. Life – family life  – is more relaxed and sedate if not a little hectic but then Yorkshire with its stunning views and easy way of live is a good place to be any time of life.
So when Andy starts back at Cragthwaite school, after an eventful and memorable first year, he thinks he ‘s got this Yorkshire thing cracked’. Well he did have but now Sheena is on the scene as is new farmer Adam who proves to be a good friend at a time of need.

Challenges for the teacher abound – such as asking the class to draw their own shoe

“but there’ll be a bummer of a stink Mr Seed”

Whilst being at school is  a challenge so to is the journey from the famiy home in Applesett to Cragthwaite –

“Six miles across the broad valley of Swinnerdales, one of the treasures of the magnificent Yorkshire Dales”

The school and the area is described as a curious old fashioned community seemingly set apart from the rest of the country.

And if you go to Yorkshire that’s the feeling you will most likely get – that you are somewhere unique and special set off from the rest of the world.

Even the school is a joy to behold –

“With the rising green fells all around presented such a beautiful panorama that ones eyes were quickly drawn away towards the crags, the ribbon work of dry stone walls and the sweep of distant hills up the valley.”

Just ssh and keep it a secret!
