What you need to know before your trail

Imagine inheriting an ice-cream parlour? That’s what happens to Imogen and Anna. Sounds like a dream and tastes like a dream but it’s a lot more hard work than they thought. If only they had as many customers as they had candy sprinkles then all their worries would be over!

Summer is just around the corner so if they can’t sell ice cream in the summer, when can they sell it? So the ice cream agenda kicks in, with Anna even taking herself off to Italy in the aim of attending a gourmet ice cream course, but where the ice cream is not the only thing on the menu..

Travel Guide

Imagine the setting, the sun is shining, you’re in Brighton on the sea front no less with the cool blue sea stretching out before you, and you’ve just been given an ice cream shop.

Brighton

“The Seafront ice cream shop, Sunset 99s, was a local landmark: it had been around since the mid 1950s, and Vivien herself was well known across Brighton”

The lure of the ice cream shop is as delicious as it sounds but the reality of the two girls getting this place back to its former glory and maybe even better is no piece of (ice cream) cake. But the bright lights of the Brighton pier twinkle their magic and let the girls dream of what they would like the shop to be. This is the perfect location after all, with the beach a second away, a dive shop around the corner and  the gentle swash of the sea, an ice cream parlour is just what the people of Brighton need!

Italy

As we leave the sandy coves of Brighton, Anna flies to Florence in Italy to make some ice cream magic, all in the name of research of course.
The descriptions are like licking your ice cream covered fingers with your eyes shut and just enjoying the sensation. Creamy, sumptuous, adventurous flavours which tingle your tongue, sitting in the sunny piazzas…

“She couldn’t stop marvelling at the elegance in every fountain, each feature of the tall townhouses. It was as if even the most unimportant of structures had been crafted as a work of art, not a functional object.”

And she arrives in Florence just as the annual Ice cream festival is approaching – where the icty is transformed with sorbets, ice creams and granitas of all descriptions.
To make you drool even more, there are a few ice cream recipes tucked away at the back of the novel to maybe eat as you read the book again. You’ll be drooling by then!

For temptation purposes, we should add that in Florence there is an ICE CREAM FESTIVAL for goodness sake!
