BookTrail Adventures to lands far far away
#TravelTuesday rolls around again and there are some brilliant adventures which have been featured on The BookTrail in the past week – The Silk Road, Iran to name but two…
Fancy trekking along the Silk Road with Levison Wood?
Having read all of Levison’s books now, this is a definite favourite – this was his first adventure so has that very first sign of eye opening , awe inspiring sense about it. Levison says that this was the journey that really inspired him to go on and which also taught him to do more and improve. He even says in his author note at the start of the book that this book was written when he was a lot younger and so it has a certain naivety to at least the writing of it. I think that’s what gives it its added charm. Looking back now having read all of his other adventures, Levison is the modern day Indiana Jones or Phileas Fogg – this man travels, explores but gets under the skin of a country and its people like no one else. Of course it helps that he throws himself into each and every adventure -acting like a local and becoming part of the landscape himself. His affable charm and cheeky grin, plus his choice of sidekicks makes Levison Wood stand out even more.
Want to go to Iran on a motorbike? Lois Pryce is your ideal travel companion
I’m not a fan of motorbikes but even I wanted to go on the one Lois Pryce rode through Iran. Imagine being told it was an impossible dream, and that you’d be mad to do it? That made her want to do it even more which is how it should be. You don’t know if something is possible until you try yourself do you? This adventure is full of awe inspiring moments, danger and dubious meetings – of course the reality of a solo female on a motorcycle is not what you expect to see in the Iranian desert everyday. Lois comes across as friendly, funny, and exactly the kind of travel companion you would want on a journey like this. She’s not afraid of hard graft or danger but manages to have lots of fun along the way.
More where that came from…
Lois’ first journey into the wild
Like the book by Levison Wood above, this is Lois first journey. Having given up her job at the BC in London and despite being told by everyone and anyone that this was not a good idea, least of all the idea to go travelling on her own on a motorbike from Alaska to the tip of Argentina…she did it anyway.
The first Lois adventure with one to Africa coming not long after
There are some seriously fearless and adventurous people out there…. Which adventure would you follow them on?
