What you need to know before your trail

Dead clients are bad for business, something that Tom Winter, head of security at a private Swiss bank, knows only too well. When a helicopter explosion kills a valuable client and a close colleague, Winter teams up with the mysterious Egyptian businesswoman Fatima Hakim to expose the truth behind their deaths.

Together they follow the money trail around the world and back into the Swiss mountains, the NSA watching their every move. As they start closing in on the truth, Winter and Fatima turn from being the hunters to the hunted, finding themselves in a deadly, high-stakes race against the clock.

Travel Guide

Author guide to Damnation:

My hero, Tom Winter, is head of security at a Swiss private bank which has some incredibly wealthy international clients. To my knowledge, this role is unique in the world of crime writing. In this role, Winter has a lot of freedom, so as an author I can send him all over the world, making him both Swiss and cosmopolitan. That’s fun to write. In DAMNATION, I send Tom Winter  – mainly to Switzerland as well as Egypt, Norway and the United States.

Switzerland

From the opening of the novel with a helicopter crash in Hollentobel, the action is mainly focused in Switzerland. Some places recommended by the author as ones to visit or even look into more closely…..

Many  of the action sequences take place amongst the stunning Swiss mountains, rivers and lakes.  What a backdrop!

Bern- Swiss National Bank

The financial centre of Bern and where the entire novel takes its focal point. The author researched and visited the Swiss Central Bank. What does go on behind the doors of a central bank in one of the richest countries in the world?

The stunning locations

Jungfrau

Well most of Switzerland is rather nice to look at but what about the most stunning of them all in the novel – the Jungfrau? The Jungfrau at 4,158 metres is one of the main summits of the Bernese Alps, located between the northern canton of Bern and the southern canton of Valais. It is literally known as the Top of the World and no surprise. The view is the best bird’s eye view you will ever see!

Gadmen – Trift Bridge

The author is pictured here at one of his locations. He likens writing a thriller to walking across this bridge – rocky and shaky but you get through to the end and realise the ups and downs but the exhiliration of the journey you’ve just been on. The Trift Bridge is the longest pedestrian-only suspension bridge in the Swiss Alps. The bridge is a simple suspension bridge design spanning 170 metres and is some 100 metres from the ground

Egypt, Norway and Boston – there are other shorter jaunts and mentions to these places but the star of the show is undoutedly Switzerland….
