Seven o’clock in the morning
The Bantrys wake to find the body of a young woman in their library. A woman who was wearing a nice evening dress and full make up when she died. Makeup that is now smothered over her face.
Who is she? How did she get there? How do you come across a body in your library? It’s like something out of a novel…
The Bantrys are keen to get Miss Marple on the case as they are respectable people and are shocked that something like this has happened in their library.
Meanwhile another dead girl is found in an abandoned quarry. Are the two cases linked in some way?
A library is a place where there is romance, crime, intrigue , suspense and yes, murder – on every one of its shelves. But when a real body is found amongst the books, this is something that only Miss Marple can sort out.
St Mary Mead may appear to be a quiet little village but the Bantry’s are soon to find out that this might not always be the case. No one seems to know who this girl is or where she came from. So, Mrs Bantry sends a car round to pick up Miss Marple up. But in the village that is St Mary Mead, she phones head as the time of day is before `the recognised time to make friendly calls to neighbours’.
The police are also in the village to find out what they can and don’t like little old Miss Marple sniffing around. But she’s not going anywhere soon and when she overhears that the dead girl was a dancer at a large hotel in Danemouth, she decides to head over there for herself.
Danemouth is apparently modelled or inspired on Christie’s beloved Torquay and the hotel majestic is a literary place to visit on any Agatha Christie tour. This is where Agatha Christie got married in 1914.
