2000s: What do you do when you’re locked up in a prison with murderers?
Prison is no place for a detective. Helen Grace was one of the country’s best police investigators. Now she’s behind bars with the killers she caught.
Framed for murder. She knows there is only way out: stay alive until her trial and somehow prove her innocence.
Locked up with a killer. But when a mutilated body is found in the cell next door. Helen fears her days are numbered.
A murderer is on the loose. And she must find them. Before she’s next . . .
Holloway Prison is where most of the novel takes place and it’s not easy reading in that prison! In real life, the prison is no more – and when you read this novel you’ll be pleased as in the fictional sense it’s a gritty, dark and foreboding place.
The cells are dark and small, if there’s a suicide, the entire prison goes on lock down, and the guards seem to dispense a justice of their own. That’s if your fellow prisoners don’t get to you first. So imagine being inside such a place, locked up and you’re a police detective…..you’re not going to get an easy life that’s for sure!
“Helen religiously chalked off each day of incarceration. She had survived forty0-six nights behind bars thus far – if she could make it through another fifth, she would have made it to her trial .It was this and this alone, that kept her going”
The city where the police force become involved and where Charlie is based. The police station is close to the train station and the Western Docks so more than a few ships that pass in the night here!
