It’s a close and often uncomfortable look at a farmer family in a poverty-stricken region in the northern parts of Sweden (Västerbotten) in 1800s Sweden
The land where the family live, used to be theirs but poverty dictated that they had to sell it cheaply during years of famine. The new owner collects his rent but if there is no money, he exploits the women instead. More children are born as a result of the abuse.
