2000s: Kristin is on the run. From her life. From herself.
When two murders are committed in Chicago, a witch-hunt ensues, and Kristin quickly finds herself at the centre of it.
The problem is she isn’t sure of what she did or didn’t do. Armed with her husband’s life-insurance pay out, she decides to run away to Sweden to start her life over.
But it’s not that easy to escape the past. Kristin grows increasingly confused, tormented by visions of her brother drowning, her husband gasping for air, and her mother’s twisted, broken limbs draped across the stairs of her childhood home. Whatever she’s done, someone is on her tail, wanting her to pay…
Could she be a killer and not even remember?
Helsingborg is Sweden’s closest point to Denmark, with the Danish city Helsingør clearly visible on the other side of the Øresund. The Helsingborg-Helsingør metropolitan area, merges the two cities into a unique area. The ferry between the two is always busy! Helsingborg, as well as the history in this novel has a very interesting history of its own. There’s lots of old buildings such as the 600-year-old medieval fortress (Kärnan) in the city centre. Don’t forget to visit Kullagatan, the main pedestrian shopping street in the city, as this was the first pedestrian shopping street in Sweden.
“A medieval fortress from the 1300s stands erected to their right, a reminder of Helsingborg’s rich history. That’s hundreds of years before many cities in the US were even founded. She feels at home here. To their left is the art museum, Dunkers, where they went on an early date.”
Just further up the coast, sits the former summer residence of the Swedish royal family
