A young Korean girl loves to play with her cat. She watches as it copies everything she does. The bond she shares with the cat is heartwarming as it helps her to see and experience the world around her. then she starts to imitate the cat instead of it copying her and she gets brave to do some of the things she never thought she would do.
“Like my cat, I’ll stretch my body (I’ll stretch my mind, too.) I won’t be scared of anything.”
Author and illustrator Kwon is from Korea and her culture and heritage are richly drawn into this book. We get to see inside a Korean household and the local neighbourhood and see a little girl playing with her cat and getting up the courage to explore and be as brave as he is.
The love between a child and a cat may transcend borders but this story is a rich illustration of how on the other side of the world, cats and children really make for fun playmates.
The little girl is often the size of the cat and vice versa which makes for a very fantastical journey!
