Girls just wanna play music!
Jasmine, Maggie, Becca, and Scarlet love jamming together in Jasmine’s basement. Maggie bangs on the drums, Becca strums her guitar, Jasmine plunks the keys of her keyboard, and Scarlet wails into her hairbrush mic. Even though they may not have the best equipment, or an audience, they have fun making music to their own beat. But when Jasmine’s brother tells her about an upcoming Battle of the Bands competition, Jasmine thinks this could be their chance to prove they’re a real band. Now she just has to convince the other girls. . . .
A fictional setting and city but a story which could happen anywhere there’s a child interested in music. There is a well known area called Center City in Philadelphia though!
This book series has no real locations but is important as it’s a story about young girls doing what they want to do an playing the music they want to play. There are competitions like Battle of the Bands all over America and indeed other countries to try and encourage children, especially girls, to play and be in a real band.
For children who love music, there are a few iconic places in New York that could really inspire someone of any age. The author herself hails from Chicago so this city too is on the musical map.
