A casual comment.
There’s a killer among us.
That’s all it takes.
She stabbed little Robbie Harris.
To change a life –
She’s living under a new name.
For ever.
She’s reformed. So they say . . .
Joanna is going to regret the day she ever said a word.
Flinstead is fictional – well you wouldn’t really want to meet these people at the school gates anytime soon! The attraction of a piece of gossip is alluring thought isn’t it? Easy to spread, easy to believe and easier to be sucked into a group who talks about it and wants updates. It makes you feel one of them, one of the crowd, and if you’re a bit of an outsider, if you’re the mum of a child being bullied at school, then what better way than to get into such a group, in order to make friends? Why not even drop a little snippet of a gossip gem yourself? No harm, right?
Flinstead could be any small town in England, or anywhere to be honest but it’s the people where you live, the people you talk to and where those rumours lead to that’s the real setting here. A rocky and deliciously unreliable journey anyone?
The rumour is that the author lives in Frinton on sea in Essex so we’ve placed that on the map.

Not out until December but I was lucky enough to be invited to help launch this at Harrogate. It might not be set anywhere real, but it could be set anywhere where people love to gossip so that’s a gem in itself!
When you start a rumour, or help spread one, can you really know where it’s going to end up and what it’s going to turn into after being passed on from one person to another? We all want to fit in with new people in some way and if you child is being bullied at school, what better way than to get to know the parents than to gossip?
But rumours have a life of their own.
A good thriller this one. Twists and turns a plenty. Some very dubious characters to get to know. And that last line? haha bravo.
