Travel Guide

Brighton

The story starts and largely takes place in Brighton. More of a backdrop location than a vital part of the story, but it’s the setting of a hip but fairly laid back town where tourists visit the many gastropubs and where characters head to the beach and pier to clear their heads.

One character heads to the beach and realises they’ve never seen such nice sand until they moved to Brighton. The dog in the novel likes it and chases lazy gulls twice his size. Brighton has a brilliant area of restaurants and pubs and one character is happy that they’re getting an IKEA as soon the only reason to leave Brighton will be to visit the National Art Gallery in London!

Forest of Dean

The village and wood called Ashdean in the novel is the Forest of Dean and the landscape and feel of this area is nicely evoked in the novel. The house of interest in the novel is on Cherry Blossom Lane – how lovely does that sound?

“ The countryside thickens, inky green woodland encroaches on the road. In fairy tales, and tabloid stories, forests are where bad things happen.”

“ In Brighton, Friday nights draws everyone to the sea, the week’s stresses over, the fun about to begin. Here. it seems, people stay home.
