What you need to know before your trail

Wally is not your average penguin. He doesn’t like the cold for a start so living in the Antarctic poses quite a problem! Wearing a scarf and hat to keep the chills at bay, he instead decides to set out for warmer climes  – the Galápagos Islands no less – and an Emperor Penguin sized adventure!

Travel Guide

“Far, far away, in the ice and cold

Lived an Emperor Penguin who wasn’t very old

Wally played in the snow and loved to sled

But always wore books and a hat on his head”

If the pictures of both Antarctica and the Galapagos Islands where Wally waddles off on his holidays, then the words will draw you right in!

A children’s book which is set to be a classic for the gorgeous images and the clear message of ‘It’s ok to be different, to be yourself’

Wally like all other Emperor Penguins does like to play in the snow, play with his penguin friends, slid on his belly along the ground and get up to all kind of Penguin mischief.

Having waddled his way to the Galapagos Islands, he arrives in paradise – and warmth. finally he can take off his hat!  He makes new friends, some strangely coloured (diving birds with blue feet) and ones which walk funny (tap dancing crabs) and finally he feels as if he is where he belongs!

To find out more about the Galapagos Islands, there is a great section of fascinating facts about the Galapagos Islands at the very end of the book.

Booktrailer Review

Clare:

Haha this is so cute for so many reasons. The pictures are gorgeous and Wally just practically jumps off the page. I just loved the message too of being different and welcoming those differences and finding the joy in making new friends who are different to you. I read it to my young cousin and to be honest I’m not sure who was taken with it more – me or her! We love Wally in this house now and this is such a charming book.  Isabel has a toy penguin and it used to wear a hat – it’s been taken off now. Guess he’s gone to join Wally in the warmer climes. Shows you how books can have an influence! I also learned something too as I’d never heard of the blue footed birds who live in this parts before. I then googled them to see what they looked like. Now that is a powerful book!
