FBI Agent Caitlyn Tierney has the case of all cases and a chilling one at that. This is no straight forward missing persons case she’s been drafted into. T missing person is a college student and daughter of a world leader in biotechnology. The consequences if this girl is not found or worse could be catastrophic.
Last seen on a cruise with friends, reports come in that she may have been somehow lured off the ship and deep into the Guatemalan jungle.
Caitlyn heads off after her but it’s not long before the trail takes a surprising turn ….

Maria Alvarado is excited. She’s eighteen years old and on the cruise of a lifetime. Stopping off at Guatemala, she’s been told there’s a Mayan temple to discover and an archaeological dig to work on. Her parents and friends don’t know the half of it, and the journey to the jungle hideout is the first part of the trip .
The jungle is dark , dangerous and potentially deadly, not to mention creepy!

The temple is tucked away remote and lost to those who don’t or can’t see it.
The story of what this place is and who is behind it is as tangled as any of the vines on the trees. The undergrowth is dense and restrictive, as if the trees have arms and are pulling those trying to get to the temple, back.And then there’s the eerie creatures and noises that only the jungle can produce –
“Another troop of the damn screaming monkeys flew past overhead.”
This Mayan temple is no such thing. There are no ancient treasures waiting to be unearthed but a secret so huge, it would shake the very foundation of modern medicine. There is work going on here which is dangerous and the secrets all ready buried will create so much grief when finally discovered.
This may be one heck of a trip deep in the heart of the the jungle but it’s also a journey of discovery about the medicine trade and the lengths some people will go to in the name of ‘progress’

Why do CJ Lyons books get me so excited? Could be as they’re packed full with so much emotion, a race against time angle, thrills and spills along the way and with such unique settings.
This has to be one of the most exciting settings ever – if you fancy yourself as some kind of Indiana Jones then this jungle run will really get you going.
All very plausible too which makes for a chilling read and I felt I made so many discoveries with this book as well – medical procedures, whether a process is ethical or not, the way of creating and spreading disease….I was really enthralled with this, and knowing nothing of the subject matter at all, not having one ounce of a medical or scientific knowledge, this made no difference at all.
The Mayan temple setting, inspired by a real temple only recently discovered made this story really chill me. A mix of real life and fiction really brought the darkness of the subject and of the jungle to full effect.
Might not want to go to the jungle now though…
