Postman Pat’s Tractor Express

Postman Pat’s Tractor Express

Why a Booktrail?

In Greendale, sometimes delivering letters needs a tractor!

What you need to know before your trail

Pat calls at the post office to collect a registered letter and a parcel for Granny Dryden. Pat has a few things to do before she delivers Granny Dryden’s parcel. He’s got a letter to deliver to a camp site.

The campers are at a waterfall and the letter is too valuable to leave in the van. Pat’s van can’t travel the bumpy road so Miss Hubbard borrows a tractor and they make their way to the campers.  When Pat returns to his van, he sees that a hen has somehow got in and laid an egg!

Travel Guide

Greendale

Greendale and the nearby town of Pencaster are both fictional but clearly inspired by the area on the border of Cumbria and the Lake District where the creator of Postman Pat lived. Greendale took inspiration from Kendal and Longsleddale. Pencaster is said to be modelled on Lancaster.

The Post Office

Greendale is a large, busy village situated in the heart of the Cumbrian countryside. There’s a High Street which has a postoffice run by the lovely Mrs Goggins who also lives there. Many of the residents seem to come here and use it as their second home. It’s amazing what you hear and find out when you’re standing in the post office!

The Train station

There’s a station on the edge of the village and this is where the Greendale Rocket ‘lives’ . Ajay runs a regular service from here to the nearby town of Pencaster.

To imagine you’re on “The Greendale Rocket” , the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway has a nice steam train.

Winding roads

Many of the roads in and around the village are narrow and wind round corners with hedgerows and fields on both sides. In the winter Pat often has a problem driving his van.

Pencaster/Lancaster

Pencaster is a large, bustling, modern town not far from Greendale.  It has a market square and many shops.  It’s inspired by Lancaster and this is indeed a short ride from Longsleddale aka Greendale.
