1995: A scandal which could rock the Royal Family to its core
When Sir James Harrison, one the greatest actors of his generation, passes away at the age of ninety-five he leaves behind not just a heartbroken family but also a secret so shocking, so devastating that it could rock the English establishment to its core . . .
Joanna Haslam is an ambitious young journalist, assigned to cover the legendary actor’s funeral. The great and the good of the celebrity world are there. But Joanna stumbles on something dark beneath the glamour: the mention of a letter James Harrison has left behind, the contents of which others have been desperate to conceal for over seventy years. As she peels back the veil of lies that has shrouded the secret, she realizes that there are other forces attempting to prevent her from discovering the truth. And they’ll stop at nothing to reach the letter before she does.
This is a novel set at the heart of the British Royal Family in and around 1995.
The author explains how the novel was written but then put on the back burner. Following the death of Princess Diana in 1997, the popularity of the family plummeted. 2000 was the year of the Queen Mother’s centenary and so this was not the time for a novel which shone a light on the shortcomings and possible scandal within albeit a fictional royal family.
The setting of the novel is firmly within the palaces of London, the secret service/royal protection services and in and around some of the city’s great festival and theatre halls.
Norfolk’s locations are mostly fictional but Haycroft House will attract many who wish they could go there for real. And of course, you can always go and visit Sandringham…
