Historical Writers Awards – Debut Crowns
Time again for the Historical Writers Awards! An annual event which looks at the best of historical fiction across the board.
I am VERY happy to say that I’ve been asked to be a judge on the Judging panel for the debut Crown Award – novels published last year in the UK by a debut author…..and as that marries two of my favourite kinds of reads – debuts and historical fiction – then to say I am excited is an understatement.
DEBUT CROWN AWARD
This award is for the best historical novel by a first-time fiction author first published in the UK in English. There were tons of entries last year and I have to admit, it was a LOT of fun getting double the book post and reading so many fine new books! Thank you so so much to all at the HWA for asking me back as a judge! VERY honoured!!
Publishers can send their books for the awards until the April 30th here
So who won last year?
ESTORIL – set in Estoril, Portugal
The shortlist….and boy was it hard to narrow it down to these ones!
The Sealwoman’s Gift set in Iceland
The Lightkeeper’s Daughters set in Australia
The Woolgrowers Companion set in Australia
The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle set in England
Well I for one can’t wait to see which books are submitted this year and get started on building a shortlist. It’s tough but very interesting and I just love discussing the books with my fellow judges and discovering new authors at the same time!
Plenty of historical booktrails on their way too!
