It never looks the way you imagine when you read a MW Craven book! Ha! This is the dark and mysterious version. One where people can go missing and reappear many years later, where bodies can be hidden in very remote areas and where a police investigation will require driving through remote and rural villages, settlements. This setting is stunning to look at and visit but driving round as a policeman from one place to another is quite a challenge!
There’s a celebrity chef and restaurant in the small village of Alston where the story starts. There’s some characters working in the library too! It’s a small knit community so when the victim of a suspected murder years earlier walks back into town…..
The investigation to find out the truth sees Poe visit villages around the Lake District including Kendal and Penrith. There’s two interesting spots up near Carlisle but you have to read the book to find out why they are important!
