Wife, mother, friend – Eve Armanton is all of these things. But who is she really? Now her son has left home, Eve no longer recognises the middle-aged woman staring back at her each morning – or the cold, loveless marriage she finds herself left in.
A chance meeting with Micajah Burnett, the son of an old school friend, stirs Eve in ways she hasn’t felt in years. Micajah offers youth, desire and freedom – and Eve takes the dangerous and liberating step into a passionate affair. Eve is about to discover who she was, who she is and who she can be. Only one thing is certain – nothing will ever be the same again
This is a book where a woman finds two things in the city of New York – a violin in an antique shop and the awakening of her sexuality. The city appears as a backdrop in the story and this story could and probably has taken place anywhere.
Eve spends her weekends trawling antique shops looking for hidden treasures which her friend can then sell in her shop. She finds a violin in a store in the city and then takes it to the library where she finds something else entirely..
The discovery of the violin:
‘The strange objects she finds ignite her imagination, conjuring up lives more exciting and more terrifying, than the low-intensity safety of her own.’
It would seem that it’s quite unexpected the things you can sometimes find in a library….
