2000s: Your whole life has been a lie…
One email is all it takes to turn Eve’s world upside down. It contains a picture of her true birth mother, Stella, and proves that Eve’s entire life with her adoptive parents has been a lie.
Now she must unravel the mystery of Stella’s dark past. But what Eve finds will force her to take enormous risks, which put her – and her new-born baby – in immediate danger…
The real setting here is the art world. Characters either worked in the galleries or art world in some way. There is talk of an artist going missing and her art work being on display in the Baltic Art Gallery, Gateshead.
Stella Carr could have been one of the leading lights in the BritArt scene of the late 1980s we are told. Some or her paintings now form an exhibition at the Baltic Gallery in Gateshead and they appear to have mysteriously resurfaced.
At her time of her death it seemed that some of her pictures spotted in a gallery in London (Houghton’s Gallery which is fictional) were all that she had left behind.
Hastings – the gallery here is also fictional but the cobbled streets and old town are very much the real thing!
