Booktrail travel to Prague
The central River Vltava which runs through the centre of Prague and is glorious for walks and wanders in the city, strolls in the evening, on the way home from work etc but in this book, it’s the scene of an awful crime.
There is a lot of focus on the police of the city and of course the changes since communism. The team in the novels are very colourful and memorable. Josef for example often complains of “feeling deficient in sugar” and/or craving beer and sausages when his brain needs “the cogs oiled”. You do get to find out a lot of suggestions for coffee and sausages around the city!
It’s quite apt that this series is set in Prague – an old city, full of colour, history and culture. The author also gives the city an impression of a gothic, bygone era at times – and the bygone grumpy cop to roam the streets is Josef Slonský
The books also contain many snippets of Prague’s history and it’s explained how the characters fit into these events, which in turn explains their actions.
