Four elements.
Four seasons.
Four points on the compass.
Four teenage girls.
And one dead body.
For six months every year, Lark Island is fogged in, its occupants cut off completely from the mainland. The community is small, tight-knit, and deeply religious. Lark seems like a good place for 16-year-old Viola Kendrick and her mother to be alone as they mourn Viola’s father and brother, both killed in a tragic accident.
The small, remote island of Lark, is located far out in the North Atlantic, surrounded by fog and mist and ocean as far as the eye can see. No one can access it for eight months of the year. The island is owned by a reclusive Earl and is inhabited by a community of religious people. There is something very creepy an strange about this place and those on it. The birth rate is extremely low so when three girls come of age, they are the focus of interest for the island and its men folk.
But the girls, the elders, are girls with secrets. They seem to have a power they don’t know how to handle and spend a lot of time at the standing stones at the top of the island…
