An epic tale of love, war, and the secrets we keep…
Anna Feldman is born in Vienna just as war breaks out; war will come to shape her entire life. But as Anna moves from Austria to Palestine, England to Germany, one thing will remain a constant: the weight of the secret she keeps.
This is the story of Anna, the people she loved and the people she lost – and a heartbreaking choice which changed the course of her life forever.
Locations are evoked to show how war time affected many different people in different ways. The cities of Vienna and Berlin are perhaps the most mentioned since war and the Nazi presence was at its peak. The cities are not evoked in great detail but rather it’s the fate of the people, their daily life, their experiences and their fears of seeing their once beloved homes destroyed.
The fear that lives with them is the same across the country and cities they move to. This novel covers some 100 years and looks at how the ripples of war affect people both before and after as well as during.
Sadly and poignantly, this story could echo the experiences many who have suffered and lost friends, family and their livelihood during war time. Throughout the novel there are poignant portraits of individual suffering throughout various wars and in various ways to highlight the meaning, the extent of loss and its consequences.
