London and the Gunpowder plot
The Gunpowder Plot was a failed attempt to blow up the Houses of Parliament on November 5, 1605. Robert Catesby was the main man behind the attack as he gathered the crowds to fight against the persecution of Roman Catholics by the English government. Catesby wanted to replace the country’s Protestant government with a Catholic leadership.
Guy Fawkes was the man in charge of the actual explosion. Before anything happened however, he was discovered in the cellar of the Parliament building with barrels of gunpowder. Fawkes and most of those involved in the plot were tried and executed for treason.
