2000s: A murder at the Glenfinnan Monument in the Highlands of Scotland,
When the remains of a brutally murdered young woman are left hanging from the Glenfinnan Monument in the Highlands of Scotland, DCI Jack Logan and his Major Investigations Team are dispatched to investigate.
At first, the case appears to be fairly open and shut. But, as evidence mounts, Jack uncovers some shocking truths about the victim that risk turning the investigation into a potentially explosive international incident.
With a billionaire baying for his blood, a former FBI agent breathing down his neck, and half the world’s press watching his every move, it isn’t the murderer that Jack’s afraid might be the end of him.
It’s the stress.
And don’t get him started on the bloody tourists…
“….standing alone in the shadow of the Glenfinnan Monument, with the waters of Loch Shiel lapping at the land behind him, Ian Hill opened his mouth and screamed.”
Glenfinnan Monument
“Most days, that view, from that angle, was one of the most iconic images of the Highlands. He’d seen it on post‐cards, on tea towels, on holiday brochures… the works. Never, though, had it looked like it did today. The top of the monument, where a kilted Highlander usually stood with his back to the water, was now covered in a marquee-like construction of canvas and ropes. It bulged out from the top in a vaguely mushroom sort of shape, turning one of Scotland’s most important historical land‐ marks into something distinctly phallic.”
