Quick Reads are coming!
QuickReads for me is an inspiration and a gift. Intended for adults who struggle to read or don’t find reading as pleasurable as others, these books are really for anyone who wants to pick up a quick bite of literary goodness instead of a meal of a novel. Well now, the fact they’re sponsored by Galaxy gives me a very good idea of what I’m going to be snacking on myself.
What I love about Quick Reads is what they stand for – best selling authors writing a special story for those who are put off perhaps by reading a 400 page novel. There are times when even book trailers want to read something snappy and quick and I love these, short stories, children’s books as much as I do novels. Reading is reading and if you can give the gift of the joy of it to someone else, that’s what I love about books.
THE BOOKS
What a Quick Reads Coup! – Malala Yousafzai’s autobiography – I Am Malala: The Girl Who Stood Up for Education and Was Shot by the Taliban. Now if this girl can’t inspire you to read no one can.
The Anniversary: Ten Tempting Stories From Ten Bestselling Authors, edited by Veronica Henry, with stories from authors such as Jenny Colgan, Philippa Gregory and Matt Haig.
Too Good to be True by Ann Cleeves
A Baby at the Beach Café by Lucy Diamond,
On the Rock by Andy McNab
The Double Clue: Poirot Short Stories by Agatha Christie, edited by Sophie Hannah and John Curran.
We’re proud to be working with QuickReads to get these books out there and to celebrate the joy of reading and hopefully encourage those who aren’t confident with reading for whatever reason.
I wasn’t always a good reader myself – I needed speech therapy as a small child – I know ironic now as you can’t shut me up or prise me away from a book – and it was reading, out loud or otherwise that gave me confidence in so many ways. Taught me a love of language that led to a career in it. If I can help to give one person the gift that comes with reading and books, and upping their confidence to read, then that would be just perfect.
And well, if it wasn’t for books like this, I wouldn’t have done the booktrail. Short books I’ve picked up and read around the world have quite literally taken me places leading to the booktrail. com website. A new hobby, career and a gap year which lasted 15 years and a love of travelling, languages and books that will last for ever.
