When an elderly gentleman is found dead at the foot of a staircase, ship’s officer Timothy Birch is ready to declare it a tragic accident. But James Temple, a strong-minded Scotland Yard inspector, is certain there is more to this misfortune than meets the eye.
Birch agrees to investigate, and the trail quickly leads to the theft of a priceless painting. Its very existence is known only to its owner . . . and the dead man.
With just days remaining until they reach New York, and even Temple’s purpose on board the Endeavour proving increasingly suspicious, Birch’s search for the culprit is fraught with danger.
And all the while, the passengers continue to roam the ship with a killer in their midst . . .

Like the Titanic, this ship is posh and a cruise across the Atlantic is very exciting. It’s a joy to be on board. Even more exciting when there is a fictional murder!
Booktrailer Review
This is an Agatha Christieque type of read. Imagine being on a cruise with this lot! A man is found dead at the bottom of the stairs and so starts an investigvation by the Ship’s officer and a detective. Given the time period and the stylish ship, this gives the novel a golden age feel. Think of the Titanic and remember the separation of classes, the fine clothes, the hopes and dreams on board as the ship approaches New York…..
The action takes place at sea so it’s a locked room mystery which floats! I enjoyed the atmosphere, the setting and the way the author built this world of days gone by but made it better with his own unique style.
I really want to go on a cruise now but have no idea what this says about me!
