Genius book marketing

  • Submitted: 12th February 2016

At the booktrail, we love receiving books. We are lucky enough to be sent many proof copies from publicists, authors, agencies and lots more and quite frankly it’s like Christmas every day when it happens. There are some however that come with such genius packaging that they deserve a special mention. Two in particular come to mind.

Hollow men book proof

The Hollow Men  By Rob McCarthy out on Feb 25 is about a medical man who goes into dangerous situations to help save lives when police operations are going on around him. Dr Harry Kent is a police medic, has been in the army and is also somewhat of a maverick. So, excited about this new direction in crime fiction, and expecting some medical thrills along the way, what did I find when I opened the book post that morning.

Genius is what I found. Genius

Turns out that I was due to go on a first aid course myself later in the month and so I already had the kit and the knowledge I needed. When one of the test questions was ‘ what is the last sense to go? I immediately said’ “Hearing” as that is the first line in Hollow Men! See, even before I’d read the official First Aid handbook, I had Dr Harry Kent whisper in my ear.

DDINAH

The second book this month is one we’d been waiting for ever since we knew Dinah was writing it – The Silk Merchant’s Daughter is a story of love, passion and war and family secrets and takes place in Vietnam. At the time of events (1950s) the silk trade was flourishing despite the threat of war in French IndoChina and it showcases a great deal of that time – the risk, the threats and the tensions between French and Vietnamese. It’s a gripping story and one which is utterly recommended! Out on Feb 25th as well, but look at how it arrived!

We’ve just picked out two – ones that I read recently but there are quite a few more. Which led us to creating a little something of our own for a recent novel The Song of the Sea Maid – having found some Kinder toys that would fit the theme, we did a little scene for a laugh and it became quite popular! With thanks to Rebecca Mascull for her encouragement and scene making abilities herself! You should check out her Facebook for another scene!
