Welcome to the Mediterranean island of La Kastellana. This is an island like no other: remote and unspoilt, a real escapoe from the outside world and some deep seated and seriuos problems.
This island catches the eye of a businessman Matthew Meade with lots of money and a dream to transform the island into something very exclusive and party focused. He wants it to be the island of choice for the rich and famous, the well-connected and the people everyone wants to be.
Trouble is, this island is already a thriving community with people working and living there. This transformation therefore is going to seriously affect them. Tatiana for example works in the local restaurant. She makes a new friend but it turns out to be Matthew’s daughter.
The stories of then and now flit between 1985 and 2016, and it’s interesting to see just how this island is changing bit by bit. People arrive for various reasons and not all of them will be welcome.
This island of lost girls is one with secrets. When money and power come to the island, these girls have no chance. No one can fight the superyachts and those with money and status. Things move quickly so pay attention and keep your eyes and ears open. Quite honestly, this novel took on a very disturbing vibe for me pretty early on. I couldn’t help thinking of those awful news stories about what when on on the island owned by Jeffery Epstein. I could picture the villa and island very clearly and the images I kept getting were those I’d seen on the news.
The book is gripping and fast paced and it made me feel very uneasy and even more impressed with the writing of Alex Marwood than I was already.
