Suffolk and Ipswich are the locations for the novel but they are more of a background rather than a key player in the story. However, they are remote and isolated in many ways and this is key for the story. Silence and isolation are the themes of this book.
The book moves around the region but the key locations within are ficitonal – Abbots Farm which is abandoned and Woodham in St Mary where Lottie lives.
