Best BookTrail of the Month – August 2023
The Best Book of August was an easy one. Well, I say easy – there were so many books I loved that were published this month but there could only be one that stood out for me.
It’s from an author who I get more and more excited about whenever she brings a new book out. This is book three (not a series) and her first is what got me hooked!
Why this won August’s Book (Trail) of the Month
The writing is lovely, evocative with a delightful turn of phrase
A mystery of a missing boy set in a grand manor house
Themes of war PTSD and the emotional struggles that result
It’s also funny and there’s a parrot who someone is teaching to talk!
Drum roll please…..
The plot:
In the summer of 1914 a boy vanishes, never to be seen again.
Now, in 1920, the once esteemed Stilwell family of Darkacre Hall find themselves struggling with the legacy of the First World War.
But their lives are thrown into further disarray when the missing boy’s case is reopened – and this time they themselves are under police scrutiny.
As the dead return to haunt the living, old resentments resurface and loyalties are tested, while secrets risk being unearthed that could destroy them all.
The location/setting: England – Darkacre Hall…..
WINNER!!!!!!
