Cassie is that girl. Quiet and timid, she has a flatmate Izzy who is the total opposite. Cassie is given the book by a regular customer to the shop where she works. When the customer dies, it becomes a lasting memory but also a very precious cargo that Cassie has to look after. She soon realises that this book could hurt people, change the course of history and worse still, get people killed. Soon, there are people after her.
The world building is fantastic. The magic involved in the books and the Book of Doors is spellbinding. When the characters wander around New York, there are certain buildings I am going to look twice at now. Oh how I wish Kellner Books was real. Maybe it is and I need to find the book of Doors to enter…We go to New Orleans, a desert setting, London, France and a host of places in between but it’s New York in the winter that shines.
The cast of characters in this book is just wonderful, Drummond Fox for example, is a book protector who lives in a grand Scottish house with full library. This library is no ordinary library and so he’s taken some measures to hide it. The Woman is the name of the character looking for it and she will stop at nothing to achieve her goal.

Cassie is able to travel back in time to meet her younger self. She finds herself trapped in the past however and we go on a magical, mystery tour of Cassie’s time before she is given the book that caused all the problems in the first place. This part of the book messed with my head but it’s so well crafted and the world so vividly constructed that I was believing every word within seconds.
