Korčula
The island and the town
It is 29.1 miles long and about 5 miles wide and and lies just off the Dalmatian coast. It is the second most populous Adriatic island after Krk and is twinned with Rothesay in Scotland.
The town
The old city is surrounded by walls, and the streets are arranged in a herringbone pattern allowing free circulation of air but protecting against strong winds. All of Korčula’s narrow streets are stepped with apart from one – the street running alongside the southeastern wall. It’s called the Street of Thoughts as you don’t have to think about the stairs!
