The Rose of Tibet
Why a Booktrail?
What you need to know before your trail
When a filmmaker is reported dead near Mount Everest, his brother Charles Houston refuses to believe that’s the case and so decides to go over to Tibet in order to look for him and to discover the truth.
This is a hard journey in many ways however as Tibet is not the most welcoming of countries – a forbidden one to outsiders and so he must take extreme care whilst there.
The danger is about to get worse for the Chinese army are coming….
Travel Guide
Travelling to find your brother in one of the most secretive and hidden countries in the world is no easy task. Travelling through India, Charles enters Tibet and tries to find his brother whilst remaining invisible himself. However with the imminent arrival of Chinese troops, he hopes that he’s not going to be their main concern.
It’s not long before Houston, whilst navigating the Himalayas gets involved with a Tibetan Buddhist Abbess in her 18th incarnation. This is a country of extremes, of mountain traps and deeply religious beliefs. Houston has to do whatever he can to survive and to blend in however he can. Cliffhangers in every sense of the word.
The Chinese invasion of Tibet
There is a lot of history here about the invasion of the Chinese, what this meant for the people living in the towns and villages of Tibet and how the atmosphere was at the time. Poignant and raw.
Tibet
A tapestry of contrasts with the butter lamps, the aroma of incense which floats from the page, the taste of Tsampa which lingers on the tongue and the colours of the landscape seen through Houston’s eyes.
