Ooh I love a destination thriller. Off to Switzerland this time to an icy wellness retreat. At a time where we are all so much more careful and mindful of stress and its effects, there are more and more wellness gurus and wellness retreats popping up all over the place.
The one in the book is one set in the Swiss mountains. Visitors bathe in ice and receive other cold water treatments to fix illness and even ailments that modern medicine seems to have not helped. You get the impression that this is a hoax and so a journalist goes to see what is going on. There has been someone who has gone missing after visiting this retreat and she wants to why.

Tell you what, this book made me stressed rather than soothing me – and that is just the result that Ruth Kelly is after. If wellness retreats are anything like this, then I’m not missing anything. Even a nice one would have been a bit creepy in the middle of nowhere and surrounded by snow. I couldn’t help thinking of the hotel in The Shining – this is the kind of retreat Johnny would have tagged on.
I enjoyed the twisty story as I went in with the journalist thinking one thing and then discovered quite another. The need for revenge, justice, hope and karma kept twirling around as much as those snow flakes and the blizzard effect of not knowing who was telling the truth or why they were saying what they said, was mind blowing. I didn’t know whose side anyone was on!
Twisty. Gripping. Suspense in the Swiss Mountains!
