What you need to know before your trail

Years ago, Astrid Maclean’s best friend died in a tragic accident … but Astrid doesn’t believe it was an accident. Instead, she holds one man responsible.

Finn MacDonald carries a heavy burden, one that he shares with no one. After a decade away at war, he now serves the Macleans of Duart on the Isle of Mull. However, he still holds a deep resentment toward the locals who once tried to hang him-and the woman who incited their hatred. When the clan-chief charges them both with a vital mission on the eve of war with the neighboring clan, Astrid and Finn are forced to work alongside each other.

They set off to get help from allies, but when a violent storm hits their ship and they are shipwrecked on a desolate isle, their journey goes awry. Suddenly, two sworn enemies are thrown together in a fight for survival.

Travel Guide

Isle of Mull

This story starts upon the Isle of Mull but takes place elsewhere for most of the novel. Astrid Maclean is a sensitive yet feisty lass with a skill for political negotiation, and Finn MacDonald is the cynical warrior who is sent on a vital clan mission with her. However, Astrid and Finn loathe each other. Astrid blames him for the death of her best friend eleven years earlier, and he’s never forgiven her for nearly getting him hanged. The hero and heroine travel north by birlinn to ask for help from the Macleods of Skye. War between the Macleans and the Mackinnons is now upon them, but the Macleans are in desperate need of assistance. However, the mission is ill-fated and a storm brings the Maclean party to grief. Astrid and Finn find themselves shipwrecked upon a deserted isle. They must finally face each other and talk about the past. Like the rest of the series, all the characters are entirely fictional. THE LADY HE LOATHED is about secrets and what they do to us. It’s also about regret and facing the truth about ourselves. Dunvegan Castle (which I’ve visited) on the Isle of Skye, is an important setting from this novel.
