The BookTrail visits Word on the Water
Word on the Water
You know when there is a place you have always wanted to visit but even though you zip through London several times, you never quite make it? Well, this time I made it – I visited Word on the Water – the barge full of books on Regent’s Canal. And it was everything I had hoped for and more.

The barge is FULL of books and it’s a wonderful thing to see. So many people were here but I managed to get some great shots of the inside.
Look at this chair! Imagine reading here. That bookbag is the one I bought asĀ a memento. The feeling of cosiness and welcoming vibes was loud and clear. This is the place to indulge your love of all things bookish!
Word on the Water
Typewriter and an open fire – could there be a better sign of things that booklovers love? The barge was very warm and inviting and I wanted to live here. I stayed for ages as I just couldn’t leave! I mean there’s even a bed… Well, a reading den…
I could read here quite happily for HOURS. There was a woman reading to her child just before I took this pic. It was Peter Rabbit and she had a lovely voice and it totally captivated me too haha!
Word on the Water
I saw people taking pics through the window of their friends and thought this a great idea. But I wanted to stay on this sofa all day and claim it as my own.
Sad to leave! But as I wandered back to Kings Cross and the main road, I found a food market and was soon tucking into this AMAZING duck burger with duck fat chips from The Frenchie. OMG never a nicer sandwich have I eaten. I didn’t need to eat for the rest of the day after this! YUM!
So with a bag full of books and a belly full of duck, I headed back into the crowds. Amazing to think this is tucked just behind Kings Cross as it feels so calm and peaceful and is a real book and food haven it seems!
