The author writes: “The central theme of Fraud involves a substantial waste management company bidding for the UK’s nuclear waste management contract. After lots of research I discovered that nuclear waste can be stored in Geological Disposal Facilities (GDFs), which forever keep the nuclear waste far underground. A few are being built currently. Although they don’t need to be, I imagined that ideal spots for construction would be away from significant populations. Therefore, I chose South Africa, a country I have visited on several occasions, and Scotland, a country I love. I chose the hypothetical sites for the GDFs from maps. I then used my knowledge of the geographical characteristics of the two countries to build up the story around the separate locations.”
