Why a Booktrail?

2025: In France, there’s a bakery where the pastries offer a taste of magic…

What you need to know before your trail

Nestled among the cobblestone streets of Compiègne, there existed a bakery unlike any other.

Rumours were whispered through the town that its pastries offered a taste of magic, chasing away the darkest of sorrows. Just one bite of a croissant might bring luck, unlock a precious memory or reveal hidden longings.

But dark clouds were looming on the horizon…

For Edie Lane, a recipe for disaster doesn’t require that many ingredients. Take an unhealthy amount of wishful thinking and a sprinkle of desperation and that’s how Edie left everything behind in Ireland for her dream job at a bakery in Paris. Except the bakery isn’t in Paris – and neither is Edie.

This might not be where Edie intended to be but she soon realizes it’s exactly where she needs to be…

Travel Guide

Compiègne

Oh this is a magical place! As Evie says in her author note, she has wanted to write about France and pastries for a while and this is the place to do it!

There are plenty of bakeries in the Rue de Paris so it’s advisable to sample each and every one. And not just in that street. This book will make you crave pastries so you have been warned! There’s also the lovely Parc Songeons and the famous war memorial that get lovely mentions too. A really lovely guide to the pleasures and history of this small village.

We start off in Paris of course, but a train ride away is where the adventure really starts…

Booktrailer Review

Well this is a delight! I knew it would be as it’s Evie Woods and she manages to weave or knead in this case, magic into all of her books. This is an ‘old book’ reissued but it has all the magic you are used to with her more recent books.

I giggled when Edie thinks she’s heading to Paris but ends up somewhere else completely. Sounds a bit like me. And it’s a magical realism adventure from then on. Loved the sprinkling of French words and French nuances. Makes me want to head to France now and chat to the people in the first cafe I see. I fell in love with the language and the country all over again.
