The Koh-i-Noor diamond has been a revered and fear diamond for centuries, pitting man against man and king against king.
It’s now part of the British Crown Jewels but it still has that aura, that deadly symbolism attached to it and many still fear them despite their beauty and elegance.
When the Crown Jewels go on display in Mumbai, everyone fears fro their safety. Inspector Chopra is one of the visitors eager to see the famous jewels but it’s on that exact same day that they are stolen, right from under his nose!
How on earth did someone manage to steal them under such close guard and can a man and his elephant even begin to solve the case?
Mumbai is home to one very unusual policeman and his baby elephant side kick. This is the city where police work is different to anywhere else in the world.
Whether it’s fighting bandits in far off Gadchiorli and getting attacked by three opportunistic crocodiles, this police work is not your usual crimes and criminals.
But the arrival of the Crown Jewels in Mumbai is fraught with difficulty and the police know it. Chopra knows that they’re held in Buckingham Palace and wonders whether they allowed elephants inside. But thankfully there’s here in the Prince of Wales Museum.
This is a Mumbai which is brought to life with sights sounds and smells and a political issue this time with the Crown Jewels. From the busy roads, to cars being herded like cattle, to missing jewels, a chocolate loving elephant and a background of politics and Indian customs, even wife Poppy, in her wonderfully exquisite saris, plays a charming part on this Indian stage.
