2000s: A romantic honeymoon cruise soon sails into murky and murderous waters
A wedding is supposed to be a happy occasion and the honeymoon a lovely time to relax and spend time with your new ‘other half’. But for Bud and Cait, as they are enjoying a lovely leisurely cruise, a man drops dead right in front of them in the games room. Cait and Bud can’t help but join the investigation and try to find out what is going on.
The dead man turns out to be Tommy Trussler—the ship’s onboard card-game tutor— and at first it appears that his death seems to have been from natural causes. However all is not what it seems on this cruise.
Now stuck out in the middle of the ocean and with thousands of possible suspects on board, Cat and Bud find that an investigation out at sea is not your typical case and that they will have to tread a very different path to help investigate a floating crime scene.
If you have ever wanted to go on a cruise, this book will certainly take you on a journey of rest and relaxation. For about 30 seconds until a murder takes place and the entire ship becomes a floating crime scene with the murderer in plain sight.
“The Luxury cruise ship Stellar Sol was about halfway between Hilo, Hawai’i and Vancouver BC”
The ship however is one floating paradise of gala dinners, fine dining, gorgeous evening dresses and the aromas of some of the best food you will ever read about in a novel.
This is not the journey around the Hawaiian islands that they expect. they’re on their way back to Canada where they’re going to start their lives together.
But at the start it does sound idyllic:
“All I had to do was turn my head to see the thrilling display; hundreds of Pacific white-sided dolphins were leaping, bounding, pirouetting, and yes, even grinning at us…”
It’s a closed room mystery on the move as the ship is two days or so away from reaching its destination so when it reaches land, the jurisdiction of the local police will take over. Cait and Bud are therefore on a clock to try and get some answers.
