Harriet, a sixth grade student, attends school on the New York’s Upper East Side along with her two best friends Sport, the jock, and Janie, the mad scientist.

After school every day, she takes her notebook and goes off on a wander pretending she is a spy. She climbs up on fences and rubbish bins and spies on people. And she’s fascinated by what she sees!

Harriet’s downfall is that she also writes down her thoughts about people she actually knows. Her classmates find her notebook and then start mocking her

Her parents find out and van her from making notes. But her nanny has other ideas..
