Reta Winters, 44-year-old successful author has always considered herself happy. That is, until her oldest daughter Norah drops out of college to become a panhandler on a Toronto street corner.
This is tough environment to find yourself in – a mother suffering since her daughter has managed to drop out of college and life the kind of lifestyle that we never want our children to lead. Soon after finishing this book, the author herself died of breast cancer and some of the language testifies to the grief and language used to describe this kind of pain. When talking of her daughter decision to isolate herself from society – this change in her is described like so:
