Set in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains this is a story for all the senses – about a perfumery hidden in the mountain crevices and the women who run it.
For generations, the Lenore women have manufactured a perfume unlike any other, and guarded the unique and mysterious ingredients. Their perfumery, hidden in the quiet rolling hills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, creates one special elixir that secretly sells for millions of dollars to the world’s most powerful-movie stars, politicians, artists, and CEOs. The Lenore’s signature perfume is actually the key to their success.
But all is not as soft and as comforting as the scents they produce for the women who run it do not mix as well as the notes as their perfume creation. Trouble is brewing and the future of the perfumery is at stake.
Then someone’s arrival to the mountains heralds perhaps a new note in the perfume story.
While most of the action takes place in the perfumery on the Blue Ridge Mountains, its the mention of the tour at the start of the book which set the scene for us –
Serena and Alex escaped from New York on the Princess Anne liner to the south. They sailed beyond the Caribbean, South America, Cape Horn, places Serena had only read about in travel books
But it’s the fertile ground of Quartz Hollow in Blue Ridge mountains that is the most magical place in the book
Blue Ridge Mountains – acres and acres of her family’s flower planted on the hills above the cabin, blanketing the town of Quartz Hollow with a smell richer than jasmine.
The dragonflies, the way they only live for a month or so, the sound of their wings, and the metallic red of their wings in the sunlight. We wanted to be right on that mountain and see the lovely creatures for ourselves.
The author was born in the foothills of the mountains so her evocative descriptions are more than authentic.
